Week 4 of Praxis has come to a close for me and Week 5 is beginning. Things weren’t too difficult to get down this week, however next week looks like it will be a bit heavier. Before get any further though, a nice reflection is in order. There are a lot of links time around so get ready to have a few windows open.
Praxis
I thought there would be more to do this week, considering we had to do a case study as an assignment. The last time case study was mentioned to me was in college, and it had seemed then like a massive endeavor with several hours and even days of research, development, field testing, etc. For Praxis however, it was more of an analysis about a company or individual and how they found there success, more or less. It’s a bit more in depth so I encourage you to read it for yourself on my website!
We finished The Consice Mastery by Robert Greene this week and overall, it’s a solid book. The focus and big takeaways for me was the idea of not conforming to others or greater society when it comes to forging your creativity. If you do, then you aren’t really forging your own creativity, you’re forging someone else’s ideas; often times those people are too lazy, unmotivated, or afraid to make something themselves, so they dump the ideas onto someone else for them to succeed or fail.
I got my About Me video finished and uploaded, primarily to the home page of my website via YouTube. This project was very easy for me but that was to be expected since video production is one of my specialties. What I really enjoyed however was giving advice and helping others who weren’t as proficient in editing as I am. A lot of what makes it enjoyable is the feeling of being immediately and directly useful to people.
Work
Small update on the work front, but important nonetheless: I received my schedule for the season. Admittedly its a bit light but at least I’m not diving in full force with no experience. Last week, I got the benefit of having a small training session with the owner of the company and two other new coaches for some on-field experience. The light hours are a little concerning but it seems I’ll be able to stay afloat. At least until November, so the job hunt begins again!
YouTube
This week saw some massive developments for the Metal Tops Inc YouTube channel. In it’s first two weeks of having videos uploaded, the channel has reached three subscribers and approximately 200 views across the three videos and three shorts available to watch. The TikTok page that promotes the YouTube channel (and also has exclusive content) has seen a lot more traffic. Although its only received one follow and five likes, the six videos available have managed to rake in about 1,300 views which I can’t say I was expecting. Not sure how many people who have viewed the my TikToks have gone over to the YouTube page, if any, but it’s nice to known people are at least seeing what I’m putting and someone out there is enjoying it. The Twitter and Instagram pages are the least successful, with no one really seeing them, although that isn’t too surprising. Possibly once the YouTube channel gets a little farther off the ground, those pages will get a little more traffic.
As of this post, there have been no submissions from the website for custom combinations. Granted only two videos have advertised the website, and those are only on YouTube. Considering how much more popular the TikTok page has been, it might be beneficial to advertise the website over there; That could very well draw in some attention.
Life
This week, I took a trip out to a Hard Cider Festival with some of my friends. I don’t drink much and hold the alcohol I do drink pretty well so I was the designated driver. I definitely didn’t mind that since I enjoy driving anyways. After picking everyone up, it took about 20-ish minutes to get to the festival. Once there, we got some ciders and hung out. There was a tractor ride that took us a little farther up the hill, where we took some pictures and walked around the orchard . . .
. . . before ending up at the festival site again. We played cornhole for a bit, listened to the live music for a bit, and then walked around the nearby town for a little while, and then headed over to our town to walk around main street a little. It wasn’t the most action packed day I’ve had, but that’s okay. It was great to hang out with friends, enjoy some hard cider, and have a good time. And now I suddenly feel so old.
Weekly Music Recommendation
Another Day in Paradise | Phil Collins
I first heard this song in the background of a stream; A few weeks later, I remembered liking it so I looked it up. Upon entering the lyrics into YouTube’s search bar, would should pop up but the one and only Phil Collins. I haven’t taken the time to listen to Phil’s catalog but what I’ve heard from him, I’ve liked it. Maybe it’s time to do a Phil Collins binge soon.
This Coming Week
Coming up this week will be at least one new video on Metal Tops Inc, however I will also be working on projects for An Engine Attached to a Train as well. I just can’t give up on a channel that I’ve put so much time and effort into, not to mention one with videos I’m very proud of. So it’s time to continue working, albeit at a slower pace than before, but at a pace nonetheless. Work with Kiddie Soccer will begin next weekend so I’m definitely looking forward to that (and having money in my bank account again). Praxis work looks like it will be heavier this week but as I’ve been doing, I’ll stick to my calendar/agenda scheduling, and I should be fine. That’s all for this week, I can’t wait to see you all next time. Cheers!
